Vol. 20 #3, Summer 2000, 2000-07
The Kentucky (U.S.A.) legislature votes to override Governor Patton's veto of H.b. 70, which therefore comes into effect on 15 July 2000,
thus amending the state's anti-discrimination statutes so that religious organizations who open their facilities to the
general public can nevertheless discriminate against persons and organizations which do not profess theism.

The word "provocation" seemed to find its way into the majority of articles in the
mainstream press about World Pride, which took place in Rome from July 1 to 9. It was reported that the Vatican repeatedly termed
the gathering of hundreds of thousands of gay men and lesbians a "provocation" of the Catholic Church...
Isn't provocation -- or even outright condemnation -- of the Vatican justified? For years the Catholic hierarchy has fought
against gay rights and called homosexuality "evil." The Sunday morning after the march, the pontiff once again
termed gays "objectively disordered." If the pope is allowed to dish out such insults, it should certainly be
acceptable for gay men and lesbians to throw them back his way.
