Pope upholds traditional beliefs
Peter GOULD

BBC News, 2002-01-29

From the day he became Pope, John Paul II has been an uncompromising defender of traditional church beliefs. His conservative views on such contentious issues such as divorce, contraception and abortion helped to secure his election in 1978. At the time, he was little known outside his native Poland.
He has now been Pope for 23 years, the spiritual leader of one billion Catholics around the world. His pronouncements on social issues have a direct bearing on the lives of the faithful. His attitude towards family life is well documented. He has repeatedly spoken out in defence of marriage, and is now warning about the "spreading plague" of divorce. Catholics are in no doubt about the views of their Pope.

Webmaster's comment:
The word "uncompromising" puts a very positive spin on things. The term "dinosaur" might be more appropriate. At any rate, John Paul II is an intransigent defender of the nonsensical supernatural doctrine of the institution he leads.
